Hytale Update 7: Chapter I Server Update Guide
Hytale Update 7, Chapter I: Out of the Breach, launched on October 12, 2026. The latest hotfix listed by Hypixel Studios as of October 22 is 0.7.3, released on October 21. For a persistent server, this is a good time to take a backup, check your mods and bring the group onto the current release.

What your group can play in Chapter I
The chapter starts at the Forgotten Temple's Goblin Lab and works on existing Exploration worlds as well as new ones. It opens the Goblin Breach and the Guttering Hollows, introduces Runestone abilities and new movement gadgets, and leads into the Deepworks dungeon. You do not need to abandon your group's world just to start the chapter. Hypixel's official Chapter I announcement explains the progression, with a warning before its dungeon spoilers.
Keep an independent copy before the first load
Update 7 changes saved-world storage to use less disk space, and existing worlds convert when first loaded. Take an off-host copy before that first start. Replacing the server binaries with an older version is not a substitute for restoring a matching pre-update world backup.
On GHosting, stop the server before downloading a consistent copy through Files or SFTP. Keep Server/universe, Server/config.json, permissions, bans and your mod files together. Record the old build and mod versions so there is a clear restore point. Our Hytale backup guide covers the full set.
Why the 0.7.3 hotfix matters for hosting
The official Update 7 hotfix notes include fixes worth having before the next group session:
- 0.7.3, October 21: fixes failed joins caused by packet loss or certificate renewal, improves Linux IPv6 networking, and reduces world-generation thread use on servers with 4, 6 or 7 processor threads.
- The native QUIC library now supports glibc 2.28 or newer, lowering the previous 2.38 requirement.
- 0.7.2, October 14: fixes crashes involving old Update 6 goblin spawn beacons and Linux worlds using RocksDB storage.
The resource-planning basics remain Java 25, a 4 GB minimum and QUIC over UDP. Keep headroom for exploration and mods; a hotfix is not a reason to increase view radius without checking usage. See our Hytale server requirements for the 4, 6 and 8 GB plan choices.
Update the server, client and mods together
Update 7 changes protocol layouts and plugin APIs. A server listening on its UDP port can still reject an incompatible client, and an Update 6 plugin may need a new build. Check each mod author's supported release before the restart. The official modder-facing notes list the breaking changes.
If startup fails after a mod change, preserve the log and test a separate copy without the suspect mods. Avoid saving your only modded world with required content missing. GHosting preserves uploaded mods during a managed update, so checking their compatibility remains part of the owner's update preparation.
How to update on GHosting
- Back up the world and configuration and tell players about the restart.
- Open Overview, find Version and updates and press Check version.
- Review the installed and staged build numbers, then press Update when your group is ready.
- Read the startup log, confirm the version, and join with an updated client. Check the intended world, permissions and mods before inviting everyone back.
GHosting checks the official release channel every 15 minutes and verifies the archive checksum before staging it. The panel compares your installed version with that staged archive. Applying the update replaces official binaries and assets while preserving worlds, config, mods and backups. You choose when to apply it; archive refreshes do not restart an existing server.
Updating a server you host yourself
Use the official staged update workflow in our Hytale server update guide and keep the server in its own directory. Update 7 blocks writable data paths inside the desktop launcher's managed install tree. Copy a personal server out of that tree instead of bypassing the protection. GHosting already uses a separate dedicated directory.
For a new group, the free 48-hour Hytale trial gives you a real 4 GB server to test with no card or automatic renewal. Compare Hytale hosting plans or browse all Hytale server guides for setup and troubleshooting.
