Free Unturned Server Trial: Workshop Maps, No Card
Most Unturned servers that fail do so for boring reasons. The Workshop map never finished downloading, a mod is missing a dependency, only one of the two UDP ports is open, or the server has no Steam login token and never appears in the Internet browser. GHosting's free 48-hour Unturned server trial lets you find out which of those apply to your setup on a real server. It needs no payment card, has no subscription and never renews automatically.

What the free Unturned trial includes
The trial provisions the same isolated container and dashboard as a paid plan. It uses the 4 GB Survivor plan and includes:
- 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU and 25 GB NVMe storage.
- The official native Linux headless server from Steam app 1110390.
- Both consecutive UDP ports the game needs, allocated and forwarded together.
- A managed Steam game-server login token, created for your server before it starts.
- Up to 75 Workshop items with automatic dependency and update handling.
- Managed map, difficulty, perspective, player cap, PvP, password and admin settings.
- Live logs, browser file access, SFTP, clean restarts and an optional daily restart.
- A choice of Europe or North America, subject to available trial capacity.
The GSLT problem, solved before you see it
Steam requires every Internet-visible game server to sign in with its own game-server login token. Self-hosters usually meet this the hard way: the server runs, friends can join by direct address, and the server never shows up in the Internet browser because no token was ever registered. Some then paste a token from a personal Steam account and inherit whatever bans or restrictions that account picks up.
GHosting creates a dedicated Steam game server account for your server, stores its token encrypted, and writes it only into the configuration inside your own container. Your server gets a stable Steam identity from the first boot. There is nothing to register during the 48 hours and nothing tied to your personal account.
Test the Workshop set, not a promise about it
Unturned does the hard part of Workshop hosting itself. The server keeps a plain list of published file IDs, installs those items and their dependencies at startup, watches for updates, and tells connecting clients what they need to download. GHosting's Mods tab writes that list, so you paste Workshop links, save and restart.
That makes the trial a genuine test rather than a demo. Add the curated map your group has been arguing about, add the vehicle and weapon packs on top, restart, and watch the console. A missing dependency, an item that no longer exists or a map that pushes past what a 4 GB plan comfortably holds all show up here, while it costs nothing to find out. Our Unturned dedicated server guide covers the underlying files if you want to know what the panel is writing.
Settings worth deciding during the trial
Two settings shape an Unturned server more than the rest, and both are annoying to change once regulars have settled in.
- Camera perspective. First, Third or Both. First-person-only servers attract a different crowd, and switching later is the kind of change that empties a player list. Decide it while the server is still disposable.
- Difficulty. Easy, Normal or Hard changes loot, zombies and survival rules together. Play an hour on the setting you think you want before committing to a term.
- Owner Steam ID. Paste a 17-digit SteamID64 and that account gets in-game owner commands, so you can kick and ban without opening the file manager mid-session.
- Player cap. The default is 24. A modded map with a full lobby is a very different memory profile from four friends on PEI, which is exactly what the trial is for.
No card and no surprise charge
Starting the trial never opens Stripe Checkout. After 48 hours the server stops and nothing is charged. A reminder email arrives four hours before the end, and the files are kept for three days, which is enough time to continue from the dashboard or download anything you want to keep.
Can I keep the same Unturned world?
Yes. Choose a paid term during the retention window and the same container resumes. The world, Workshop list, settings, bans, files and public address stay in place. You do not rebuild the server you just finished testing.
How to start the Unturned trial
- Open the Unturned server hosting page.
- Choose a region and select Start free trial.
- Create an account and verify your email address.
- Return to the hosting page, start the trial, then add the server from your dashboard.
Each verified account can claim one trial per eligible game. A rolling network allowance, a global slot limit and a paying-customer capacity reserve keep the free servers available for genuine groups, so trial slots depend on capacity at the time you start.
