Terraria Special Seeds on a Dedicated Server: Zenith, Skyblock and Combinations

A new Terraria playthrough can be more than another random map. For the Worthy changes its difficulty, Drunk World puts both evil biomes in one world, Zenith combines seven special seeds, and Skyblock starts you on a tiny floating island. A dedicated server can generate these worlds too. The important distinction is vanilla versus tModLoader: current vanilla supports separate special-seed toggles, while tModLoader takes one special seed as text.

Build a special-seed world in the free Terraria World Lab

Choose the server type first

If your group wants vanilla special-seed combinations or Skyblock, choose vanilla Terraria. If the playthrough needs Calamity or another tModLoader mod, choose tModLoader and one of its supported special seeds. Installing a mod does not give an older world generator the newer vanilla seed menu.

The World Lab makes that distinction before you download anything. Switching to tModLoader clears a vanilla-only combination and explains why. You can then choose a supported seed. Its inspector also compares an existing world with the server versions GHosting measures in daily verification, so a world from a newer vanilla release is not mistaken for a usable modded save.

Three setups to try with friends

  • A worthy challenge: Medium, Master, For the Worthy. Start with the matching preset in the World Lab. This is a supported choice for vanilla and tModLoader; add mods separately on a modded server.
  • Everything at once: Medium, Master, Zenith. Zenith includes For the Worthy, Drunk World, Not the Bees, The Constant, Celebration, No Traps and Don't Dig Up. You do not need to select those seven again. On tModLoader the builder uses seed=getfixedboi; on vanilla it uses seed_zenith=1.
  • Start with almost nothing: Medium, Classic, Skyblock. Pick vanilla for this one. Skyblock is a separate choice and is not part of Zenith. It is not available on tModLoader yet.

These are generation recipes, not downloadable worlds. Terraria generates the actual terrain when the server starts. The builder does not promise where chests, ores or structures will appear, and it does not preview a map from a seed.

How to combine special seeds on a vanilla server

Use the World Lab to choose a size, difficulty, optional seed text and special seeds. The self-hosted config section gives you the generation lines. For example, a Medium Expert world with Drunk World and For the Worthy uses:

world=worlds/our_challenge.wld
autocreate=2
worldname=Our challenge
difficulty=1
seed_drunk=1
seed_fortheworthy=1

Stop your server before editing its configuration. Set world= to a new, unused file path and create the parent folder first. Keep your existing port, password and player-limit settings. Start the server with the config file and wait for generation to finish before joining.

The unused path matters. If the file already exists, Terraria loads that world and ignores the generation options. Changing difficulty or adding a seed toggle does not convert a world you have already played.

You can keep a normal seed alongside the vanilla toggles. To reproduce a generated world, use the same game version, size, difficulty, seed and special-seed choices. The seed text alone does not describe every choice.

How special seeds work on tModLoader

tModLoader currently identifies special worlds through the ordinary seed= line. It uses one special seed per world. For the Worthy, for example, is:

seed=for the worthy

Zenith uses getfixedboi. The Constant uses the constant. The World Lab writes the right text for whichever supported seed you select. That text replaces a custom seed, so the custom seed field is disabled while a tModLoader special seed is selected.

Do not add vanilla seed_ toggles to a tModLoader config and expect them to combine. Keep your .wld and .twld together when moving a modded world, and install the matching mods before playing it.

Create the recipe on GHosting

  1. Open the World Lab builder and choose your server type and world options.
  2. Click Use this on a GHosting server. The recipe stays in the current browser tab. You can also download the JSON recipe to keep a copy.
  3. Start a server or an eligible no-card 48-hour trial. Choose the same vanilla or tModLoader type when adding your game server.
  4. Once the server is ready, open Worlds and click Review recipe. If you downloaded it or changed tabs, use Load a recipe to select the JSON file.
  5. Check the options, then click Create and restart or Create and start. The server generates the new world and keeps the old one.

Creating or switching restarts the server, so connected players will be disconnected while it changes worlds. You choose when to do that. The recipe itself never starts or overwrites a world.

Try your next playthrough on a Terraria server

Find the seed of a world you already have

The World Lab inspector reads a .wld on your own device. It shows the seed, size, difficulty and special-seed flags, plus which server variants can open it. Add the matching .twld for a modded world. World files are never uploaded to the tool.

On Windows, vanilla worlds are normally in Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds. Modded worlds are under Terraria\tModLoader\Worlds. On macOS, look in ~/Library/Application Support/Terraria; on Linux, in ~/.local/share/Terraria. Close the game before copying the save. If it lives in Steam Cloud, use Terraria's world list to keep a local copy first.

For the full move, see our Terraria world transfer guide. Keep the original save until your group has joined the server and checked its progress.

Questions the seed builder cannot decide for you

  • Corruption or Crimson: the dedicated server has no separate evil-biome generation option. The generator and seed decide it; Drunk World includes both.
  • Journey characters: only Journey characters can join a Journey world. Pick Classic, Expert or Master for a group using ordinary characters.
  • Mod compatibility: the recipe sets world-generation options. It does not install mods or verify that an arbitrary modpack works together.
  • A different playthrough: keep separate world files. On GHosting the Worlds tab lets you switch back to your old world without replacing it.
