Free 7 Days to Die Server Trial: V3.1, No Card
A 7 Days to Die server can look healthy while still failing the test that matters. The process may be running, but the browser region is wrong, one of three ports is missing, the Sandbox Code does not contain the rules you expected, or Easy Anti-Cheat disagrees with the mod set. GHosting's free 48-hour 7 Days to Die server trial lets you test the real world and real players before paying. No card is required and nothing renews automatically.

What the free 7 Days to Die trial includes
The trial provisions the same isolated container and dashboard as a paid plan. It uses the 4 GB Survivor plan and includes:
- 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU and 25 GB NVMe storage.
- The official 64-bit Linux dedicated server from Steam app 294420.
- The full three-number network span: TCP and UDP on P, plus UDP on P+1 and P+2.
- Crossplay settings for a group of up to eight players.
- Managed V3 Sandbox Codes, maps, PvP, EAC, browser visibility and zombie limits.
- Live logs, browser files, SFTP, clean restarts and optional daily maintenance.
- A choice of Europe or North America, subject to available trial capacity.
Which 7 Days to Die version does the trial run?
As checked on August 23, 2026, the current stable dedicated-server line is V3.1.0 Henpocalypse. GHosting installs the public stable branch of Steam app 294420 and compares its installed Steam build ID with the current depot before offering an update. The trial does not silently opt a persistent world into an experimental branch.
The official V3.1.0 stable announcement also matters for configuration: V3 uses Sandbox Codes for most gameplay rules, and the V3.1 notes warned server owners to recheck older presets after Sandbox Options changed. Keep every client on the same stable build as the server before treating a failed join as a firewall problem.
Test the complete three-port path
7 Days to Die does not use only one socket. If the allocated base is P, the server needs TCP and UDP P plus UDP P+1 and P+2. GHosting reserves and proxies all three port numbers as one unit. That prevents another game server or the container's SFTP endpoint from taking a number the game needs.
Use direct connect first. If it works but the server browser does not, check public visibility, the physical-region category and browser filters. The hosting panel derives the default category from the selected host region, so a Frankfurt trial is not accidentally published as North America. Our current Linux server guide explains the protocols and external checks in detail.
Build and verify your V3 Sandbox Code
V3 moved difficulty, day length, blood moons, loot, progression and many other world
rules into a compact SandboxCode. The trial is a safe place to generate the
rules, start a new world, join and verify that the code actually produces the experience
your group expects.
Use the 7 Days to Die Sandbox Code generator and decoder to inspect all 165 supported settings, start from a known preset and copy the validated result into the panel. Map, password, browser visibility, player count and EAC remain separate settings, so changing the code alone does not replace the entire server identity.
Maps and settings worth testing
- Navezgane or a pre-generated world. Choose the official handcrafted map or one of the shipped 6K and 8K pregens before the group settles.
- Crossplay and player limit. Current crossplay servers support up to eight players, which matches the Survivor plan's intended group.
- Public listing and region. Test both direct connect and the actual browser filters players will use.
- PvP and profiles. Decide who may damage whom and whether returning players are locked to their established profiles.
- Zombie cap. Higher caps create real CPU load. A blood moon is a better sizing test than standing alone in a fresh base.
- Daily restart. The managed default restarts during quiet hours with a graceful SIGINT and enough time for the server to save.
Can I test mods during the trial?
Yes. Stop the server and upload server-side mod folders into Mods through
Files or SFTP, then restart and read the live log. Some mods also require matching client
files, some need EAC disabled, and overhaul packs can require a fresh world. Test with
the same client mod set and anti-cheat choice the group will actually use.
A 4 GB trial is a realistic small vanilla or lightly modded server. It is not a valid capacity test for a large overhaul, a heavily explored 8K world or an extreme zombie cap. See the 7 Days to Die server requirements guide before interpreting memory pressure as a hosting fault.
Bring an existing world carefully
You can use file access to place an existing world and player data into the persistent
data directory. Stop the server first, keep an untouched source backup, and move the
matching generated world, game save and player profiles together. A different
GameName can look like a wipe because the process opens another save, so
verify the next startup log before deleting any original files.
Do not change the game version, mod set and world copy in one untraceable step. The trial gives you enough time to test the unmodified world first, then add mods, then restart again. If something breaks, you know which boundary caused it.
No card and no surprise charge
Starting the trial does not open Stripe Checkout. After 48 hours the server stops and nothing is charged. Its files remain for three days, giving you time to continue or download the world before deletion.
Can I keep the same 7 Days to Die world?
Yes. Choose a paid term during the retention window and the same container resumes. The world, player profiles, Sandbox Code, mods, settings, files and public address remain in place, so the trial does not end with another migration.
